Are You Protecting Your Biggest Asset, Your Home?

Are you protecting your biggest asset, your home?

If you own a home, you should take the time to sit down with your agent and discuss the value of your home and the conditions of your policy.  Most policies include a clause regarding the length of time you can be away from the home before it is determined to be vacant.  This of course voids the policy, thus leaving the insured with no coverage.

Also, make sure you have replacemnet cost on your contents and dwelling.  If you have replacement costs, most companies require the home to be insured to the current replacement cost value.  So if you purchased your policy several years ago and have not increased the limit you should re-evaluate your replacement cost and make sure you increase your policy limit.

Other coverages to consider are ordinance of law, earthquake, flood, and sewer and drain backup.  If you have made any changes to your home, you should notify your agent.  Maybe you added on a new deck, re-wired your home or put on a new roof.   Sitting down with your agent to review your largest asset is important.  So take the time to call them and set up an appointment.
